THG Thankful Thursday
This Thursday we are so very thankful for the Women’s Council of Realtors, also known as the WCR. The current President is our very own Shannon Stumpenhaus. The WCR is a network of successful Realtors, that work to advance women as professionals and leaders in business, the industry and the communities they serve. In the 1930’s, the National Association of Real Estate Boards (the predecessor of NAR) witnessed a growth of women working in real estate and an increased participation of women at national conventions, as women were becoming aware of their potential in and importance to the industry. Members of the Women’s Council of Realtors are career professionals. They operate based on a shared value system of integrity, respect, consistency and a commitment to excellence and continuous development.
At the Annual Convention in Milwaukee in November 1938 a positive vote resulted in the formation of a women’s division. Thirty-seven ambitious women represented nine states at that meeting for Women’s Council’s inception. Today Women’s Council is a nationwide community of 12,000 real estate professionals who include many of the best and brightest in the business. The backbone of the Council is its network of more than 260 local and state chapters with volunteer managers trained to position their groups as a business resource in their Realtor communities. Today, Women’s Council is the twelfth largest U.S. women’s professional organization and has one of the most successful communication networks in the NAR family. Today we are so thankful to those 37 women that helped jump start the Women’s Council of Realtors.
